Oakland Public Theater & the Baldwin Centennial Project joins PlayGround-SF’s Innovator Incubator Showcase, offering a Sneak Peek at next year’s staged reading series celebrating the life & work of James Baldwin. One Night Only, Nov.7 7pm, OPT kicks off this festival with a staged reading featuring GIOVANNI’S ROOM, and a brief discussion of next year’s project.

The full Showcase runs November 7-28 at Potrero Stage, giving diverse companies a chance to share an exciting array of new works. This year’s Incubator Cohort includes: Analog Theatre, The Chikahan Company, City Street Artists, Juneteenth Theatre Justice Project, Latinx Mafia, Native Writers’ Theater, Poltergeist Theatre Project, Oakland Public Theater and Theatre Cultura. All shows are simulcast online and on-demand for one week. Advance reservations are required, events Admission-FREE.

February 2022 Previews

These Sneak Previews featured an excerpt from our earlier play, "BEFORE THE DREAM: The Mysterious Death (& life) of Richard Wright", which shows Wright’s relationship with Baldwin. The second excerpt we are shared was a rough draft, focused on the Baldwin novel Giovanni’s Room.
